Milbank History

 1947

Milbank Floors was established by Geoffrey Milbank at Howe Street, Chelmsford, Essex to manufacture precast flooring products to his own design.

 1952

Milbank started manufacture of prestressed, inverted Channel and Beam and Pot concrete floors. In the following 10 years prestressed precast concrete agricultural frame buildings were added to the product range.

 1964

John Milbank took over running the business following his father Geoffrey’s death.


 1978

Jeremy Milbank joins the team. Milbank start to manufacture precast concrete stairs.


 1980

Milbank Floors began manufacture of 150mm deep Beam and Block floors for ground floors for houses.

 1985

Milbank Floors moved to a 6 acre site at Earls Colne, Colchester and built a new factory. Product range extended to include 180mm Beam and Pot upper floors for separating floors in flats.

 1992

7 beds 100m long were introduced to produce prestressed Hollowcore floors (75 - 250mm deep), which replaced the Beam and Pot upper floors.

 1996

New building erected for the manufacture of bespoke precast products; stairs, landings, ground beams and Montex car park slabs

 2000

Purchase of 40 acre site at Brandon, Suffolk. New factory and storage built on 10 acres to produce 225mm deep Reinforced Hollowcore Slabs and associated precast units.

 2006

Developed a further 15 acres at Brandon to build a “state of the art” prestressed Hollowcore factory with 12 beds 150m long.

The product range was extended to include 320 and 400mm deep Hollowcore, precast concrete wall panels, concrete columns and beams for multi-storey car parks.

 2008

The “Credit Crunch” effect hit the UK Construction Industry, and the company was reorganised.

Trading as “Milbank” and operating only from the Earls Colne Site, the tradition of providing practical, cost effective precast concrete solutions was maintained by a Management team consisting of Sean Milbank, Andrew Mayne, and David Costin.


 2009

Product Range expanded to include Stadia.
