Milbank Supports Essex & Herts Air Ambulance with £4,500 Donation for ‘Blood on Board’ Missions

At Milbank Concrete Products, we’re proud to announce our latest community initiative – a £4,500 donation to support Essex & Herts Air Ambulance’s (EHAAT) life-saving Blood on Board programme.

Every day, EHAAT’s critical care teams stand ready to respond to serious incidents across Essex and Hertfordshire. Since 2019, their helicopters and rapid response vehicles have carried not just advanced medical expertise, but also vital blood products directly to the scene of major trauma. For patients experiencing catastrophic blood loss, this can mean the difference between life and death.

“Funding these missions means more patients across Essex and Hertfordshire will get the critical care they need at the earliest possible moment,” said Lee Cowen, Managing Director at Milbank Concrete Products. “As a local business, we know how vital this service is to our communities, and we’re proud to play our part.”

Each mission that carries blood products costs approximately £500, due to the stringent clinical requirements and the dedicated supply chain that makes the programme possible. EHAAT works closely with NHS Blood and Transplant and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow to secure blood products, while volunteers from Essex Voluntary Blood Service ensure daily deliveries to EHAAT’s airbases – rain or shine. Any blood not used on missions is safely returned for hospital use, so no donation ever goes to waste.

Our contribution will directly fund nine life-saving missions, helping EHAAT continue their essential work and giving patients the very best chance of survival.

Lyndsay Wood, EHAAT’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, shared: “Working together, we’re giving critically ill patients the best chance of survival. We’re incredibly grateful to Milbank for their generous support. It’s partnerships like this that make Blood on Board possible.”

This July, the incredible work of EHAAT will also feature in a new Netflix documentary, Critical, offering viewers an inside look at the reality of pre-hospital emergency medicine — including the Blood on Board programme that we’re so proud to help sustain.

We encourage everyone to consider supporting EHAAT or donating blood. Just one blood donation could help save a life in our local community.
