Precast concrete auditorium units installed at Purbrook Park school

Purbrook Park School is a comprehensive co-educational secondary school situated in Purbrook, north of Portsmouth, Hampshire. The school has an enrolment number of 840 pupils, aged 11 through to 16 and became a trust school in April 2009 with Ofsted judging the school to be “Good” in May 2015.

Milbank were commissioned to produce 6 No. 9 tonne auditorium units and single 5 tonne access/exit stair units for the schools new auditorium. Due to the site being on school grounds, the units had to be installed during the Easter end of term break when there was less congestion of pupils and teachers. A 250 tonne mobile crane was required to install the units due to the extraordinary weight and radius, the auditorium units were equivalent to 3 Range rovers in weight each.

The auditorium moulds were extremely complex with splayed sides, large radius treads, profiled nosings and chamfer on all faces. One of our dedicated Installation teams completed the job in just one day with special thanks to Mark Howard (foreman), Richard Holmes, Craig Barnett and Richard Gadd.
